SHILLONG: The East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police has issued an advisory for the general public against the purchase of second-hand articles especially mobile phones and other electronic items from unauthorised individuals, dealers or agencies as the articles might have been acquired illegally by way of theft, extortion, robbery, dacoity, criminal breach of trust or criminal misappropriation.
Such articles are deemed as stolen property and according to the law, receiving or retaining of stolen property is punishable with imprisonment which may extend to life imprisonment.
Police have also informed that individuals with knowledge of any persons, dealers or agencies dealing in stolen property, are requested to contact the chief Inspector (Sadar) in Khliehriat at 6009118372, Khliehriat Police Station at 6009110105, Lumshnong Police Station at 6009090286, Saipung Police Station at 6009078795, Ladrymbai Police Outpost at 6009097758, Umkiang Patrol Post at 6009093595, or the officer in charge, Umpleng Anti Dacoity Camp at 6009109460.
“The identity of the informer will be kept confidential and a suitable reward will be given,” the SP said.
