SHILLONG: House 15 in Jaiaw is a typical Khasi residence that effuses warmth and hospitality. And it was the perfect venue for the three-day Ka Ing art exhibition that concluded on Saturday.
The works of seven artists, including Careen Joplin Langstieh and Treibor Mawlong, were on display. Each art work depicted a facet of the “the home”.
Artist Rangskhembor Mawblei said it was not an exhibition in a hurry but the artists had been discussing about it for a year before organising it.
Mawblei’s art work focused on the importance of rice in everyday Khasi life. “Rice is an intrinsic part of our life and that is what I have tried to depict,” said Mawblei. Another painting by Casper Syiem, titled the Empty Home, shows how “people these days are more concerned about privacy” and “they forget what makes a home is a family”.
