SHILLONG: The butchering of local cattle has resulted in the increase of price of beef by Rs 60 as the butchers are finding it difficult to procure cattle from outside the state, claims the Khasi Jaintia Butchers Welfare Association.
When contacted, the president of the association, Generous Warlarpih said about 30 per cent of butchers are getting the local cattle and the production of local cattle is not sufficient enough to meet the state’s beef consumption.
Recently, the association went on a strike against cattle smuggling.
