SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment is miffed with the health department for not completing many government infrastructure and hospitals in the state.
Chairman of the Committee, Ampareen Lyngdoh said that a new building was being constructed in Ganesh Das Hospital and it was disappointed to know that it is still not operating. However, the department has assured that efforts will be made to speed up the matter. The Committee was also irked with the fact that some PHCs and CHCs in Garo Hills and Jaintia Hills are in bad condition. There are security issues in PHCs at Songsak and Resubelpara as staff are being harassed by miscreants.
As far as Ayush medicines are concerned, the department was informed that it is quite popular in rural Meghalaya but medicines are not regularly supplied. The Committee has asked the department to look into the matter.
It also lamented that a new state of the art maternity hospital at Ialong, Jowai was completed long time but it could not be made operational due to issues like power connection and shortage of manpower.
