JOWAI: A 12 year old girl was allegedly raped by one Pyrkhat Law of Mowtyrshiah village in Jaintia hills District.
Sources informed that the girl along with her two friends had gone to collect vegetables in a jungle nearby the village when the alleged rapist spotted them and attempted to sexually abuse them. He caught hold of one of the girls and raped her while the other managed to flee, sources said.
When she reached home she informed her relatives of what had happened who later informed the headman and village elders. Members of the village apprehended the accused in the wee hours on Monday and handed him to Raliang Police.
