Cleaning drive in SWKH

MAWKYRWAT: The office of the Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills, in collaboration with the Green Volunteers, SSSS Shilliang Um Zone & Jashiar village organised an awareness-cum-cleaning drive at Jashiar village on Thursday, in which locals, government officials as well as Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo participated.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Laloo lauded the initiative taken by the staff of different departments in the village which had received the Nirmal Gram Puriskar Award in 2011, an award which was given to the cleanest villages in India. She said that the programme aimed at instilling the spirit of cleanliness and to create awareness among the shopkeepers, parents, youth, children and all inhabitants of the hamlet.
The DC also inspected the public toilets during the cleaning drive and directed the Myntri to make it functional soon.
Others who spoke included Y. Lyngdoh Soil and Water Conservation Department Ranger, R. Nongdhar and S.D.O PHE H.K. Diengdoh.
