Move to curb illegal trade in border

NONGPOH: With an aim to check illegal trade set-up by non-tribals without proper documentation in the state especially in border areas, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) opened its trade branch at Baridua under Raid Marwet on Thursday.
It was inaugurated by Executive member in-charge of trade Paul Lyngdoh.
The trade branch was a long pending demand of the Raid Marwet who sought to set it up following the flow of non-tribals setting up their trade establishments in the border areas illegally.
Addressing the gathering, Paul said the District Council is very much aware of the encroachment of non-tribals especially dominating the locals in border areas, therefore the Council took up the matter seriously and setup its own trade branch at Baridua.

Paul said the trade department of the Council is very concerned over the rise of illegal traders.
Lyngdoh called upon all representatives of Raid Marwet to cooperate with the Council to curb illegal trade being set up by non- tribals so that genuine people can improve their trade and the purpose of setting the trade branch can be accomplished, he added.
