SHILLONG: The headman of Ratacherra, Desus Pohshna clarified the allegations of a section of residents on enhancing the Dorbar fund asserting that the money collected annually from the residents is meant to run the village secondary school.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Pohshna said the residents had in fact raised their hands as a sign of agreement during a Dorbar held when the decision to hike the money to run the school was made.
However, he admitted that the Rs 500, Rs 1000, Rs 2000 and Rs 3000 were collected from the residents.
“Previously, the school administered classes up till 8th standard and this makes it difficult for some parents to send their wards outside the village to study, so we decided to set up a secondary school using the money from the villagers which they can give annually,” he said adding that the residents of Ratacherra are well off and can afford to make the necessary payment within the range of Rs 500 – 3000.
Pohshna refuted the claims of the dissident groups who said there are 106 households in Ratacherra asserting that as on 2015, there were 379 households in Ratacherra.
He added that there are 75 households rebelling against the Dorbar Shnong.
He also admitted to have suspended 75 households but said the households are not deprived of their daily ration and have their own dealer.
