Rotavirus vaccine launched in WJH

JOWAI: The West Jaintia Hills District Task Force on immunisation meeting was held on Tuesday to discuss matters pertaining to problems regarding routine immunisation in the district.
A briefing was also done on the rationale and introduction of rotavirus vaccination into routine immunisation.
Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills, Garod LSN Dykes chaired the meeting and launched the Rotavirus Vaccine (RVV) in the district at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
Rotavirus is a contagious virus which causes severe and fatal diarrhoea among children less than 5 years of age which may lead hospitalisation and death.
The District Programme officer (ICDS), District School Education Officer, District Medical & Health Officer, Additional DM&HO, District Immunization Officer, Surveillance officer along with the medical officer’s of CHCs/PHCs were also present.
