SHILLONG: A Joint Development Committee (JDC) comprising representatives from Rongongre, Cheminmingre, Jakopgre, Rongrekgre and Kakwa Duragre villages under Samanda Block, East Garo Hills, recently submitted a letter to the chief engineer of the State Rural Roads Development Agency, PMGSY Cell, East Khasi Hills regarding the non-completion of a road along with a bridge from Rongongre to Kakwa Duragre.
“The only source of connection to Williamnagar is across the Rongong river which till date has no bridge thereby making it difficult for the residents of Rongongre, Cheminmingre, Jakopgre, Rongrekgre and Kakwa Duragre to obtain basic necessities from the Williamnagar Bazar,” the committee said.
“It is also pertinent to mention that the road connectivity is in a dilapidated condition wherein no black topping has been done,” it added.
It may be mentioned that the work on the bridge sanctioned in 2018 by the Ministry of Rural Development, Rural Connectivity Division was yet to be initiated.
Under the circumstances, the JDC wondered what could be said about the clearance for the construction of roads and bridges from Chiminmingre to Kakwa Duragre.
