All-party panel to meet on Tuesday

SHILLONG: The newly-constituted committee, consisting of members from all political parties of the State to examine the guidelines of the Election Commission (EC) with regards to the on the ongoing enrolment drive in the election voter’s list, is scheduled to hold its first meeting on Tuesday.

The committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong as the Chairman has been asked to submit its report to the State Government on May 17.

It may be mentioned that the terms of reference of the committee are to examine the instructions and guidelines issued by the EC on the matter of registration process and methods and to suggest as to how these could be adapted to suit the local conditions and circumstances in the State in order to facilitate registration of genuine and eligible voters with least inconveniences to them.

The committee has also been asked to identify issues and concerns which are causing difficulties in the enrolment process and prepare a memorandum so that the matter could be taken up with the EC.
