Soft skills coaching concludes in Sohra, students graduate

AVENUES builds confidence

SHILLONG: Over five hundred students from Sohra Government College and Cherra Presbyterian Secondary School gathered at St. John Bosco Boys Catholic Church Hall to celebrate their graduation under ‘Aspire Meghalaya’ programme, a one-of-its-kind Ministry of Tribal Affairs supported initiative that is aimed at the personal and professional development of tribal youth of the state. The initiative launched earlier this year by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, is being implemented by AVENUES across the state.
Speaking on the occasion in Sohra, A. L. Lyngdoh, Principal of Sohra Government College, appreciated the efforts taken during the programme and reiterated its objectives which include ‘well-being’, ‘self-worth’ and ‘confidence’ designed to augment formal education structures. Also, A.Wanbah, principal of Cherra Presbyterian School, lauded the initiatives.
The graduation ceremony witnessed cultural performances on the part of the students ranging from a rendition of John Lenon’s ‘Imagine’ by Bamedaker Sohkhlet of Sohra Government, Judia Phika Pde’s self-composed song in Khasi to a student band, New Dawn Group’s performance of Queen’s ‘We Will Rock You’.
Aspire Meghalaya workshops have commenced across several districts and have so far had an impact on almost 4,000 participants. The unique programme has been met with great enthusiasm from school and college student communities across the state.
