SHILLONG: The Opposition Chief Whip and Congress MLA, P T Sawkmie has opposed the amended Motor Vehicles Act.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Sawkmie said,” I am sure the state government needs to have a relook into the amended Act otherwise, if it is going to be implemented according to the present form, it would have an adverse effect on the people of the state”.
Sawkmie said the government has an opportunity to examine and study it.
“We look forward to the government to study it, so that it will not be a burden on the people. Many union ministers have stated clearly that the implementation of the Act depends on the states and it is upto them whether to accept or reject it.
Moreover, the government has to demarcate the powers of police and enforcement wing of the Transport department to implement the order.
