Shillong: Taking strong cognizance of the obstruction by the Assam government against developmental activities in Langpih, the district administration of West Khasi Hills has beefed up security in the disputed area.
The ongoing imbroglio between the two neighbouring states deepened further on Sunday last when a team of Assam officials led by SK Roy, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup and Superintendent of Police PS Mahanta besides other officials had visited Langpih and forcefully stopped the construction of the community hall of Hima Raid Mynsaw Sirdarship with it’s headquarter at Langpih.
West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner S Kharlyngdoh on Thursday said, “Security has been beefed up in Langpih to ensure that there is no untoward incident in the disputed area.”
It may be mentioned that though Meghalaya police has a camp in Langpih, residents allege that they are facing lots of problems and insecurity because of regular obstruction by the Assam Government from time to time.
However, the General Durbar of Raid Mynsaw Elaka has unanimously resolved to proceed ahead with all developmental programmes in the area and also to proceed ahead with the construction of private houses, sheds for the purpose of the basic interest and other necessities of the people of the area.
According to Kharlyngdoh, a DC-level meeting will be held next week to discuss the matter.
