NONGSTOIN: With less than a year to go for the Assembly Elections, a lot seems to be happening in the political circles of the State.
In a case of anti-party activity at the Nongstoin Assembly Constituency (AC), Albinus K Bani, Secretary West Khasi Hills District Congress Committee and Macmilan Kharbani, Secretary of the Nongstoin Block Congress Committee have allegedly been campaigning for HSPDP vice president Dr. Advisor Pariong within the district. Dr. Pariong is currently the MLA from Pariong constituency and had secured his representation by dint of an HSPDP ticket in the last election. A strong worded letter signed by six members of the Nongkhlaw Unit of the Congress has been shot off to the MPCC President D D Lapang and the District Congress Committee President Boldness Nongum and also to the NBCC President N.Nongdkhar to initiate action in this regard.
The letter alleges that Albinus and Macmilan have been campaigning in favour of Pariong in the constituency and they even caught him campaigning at Nongkhlaw on April 24 where the duo had openly announced Dr. Pariong’s candidature from the Congress in the upcoming Assembly Elections. They misled the public by telling them that Dr. Pariong had already obtained a Congress ticket to contest from Nongstoin, the letter added.
Meanwhile, sources speculated that Pariong has his eyes on a Congress ticket from Nongstoin. It is also rumoured that Dr. Pariong might not be able to contest from his constituency. So seeking for a favourable constituency, Pariong chose Nongstoin sensing that Hopingstone Lyngdoh would make his probable exit this year.
Nongstoin AC has five aspirants for the Congress ticket – BK Bani, Macmilan Kharbani, Morningstar, Nestingdar Nongdkhar and David Hamar Marwein. Both Albinus and Macmilan are active members of the Congress.
