MAWKYRWAT: The MePDCL finally succumbed to the pressure of the Mawkyrwat Electricity Consumers Forum (MECF), a conglomeration of NGOs, headmen and others, and agreed to issue electricity bills in the name of MePDCL and not Feedback Electricity Distribution Company Limited (FEDCO).
The decision was taken during the meeting between the Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills, Isawanda Laloo, leaders of the MECF and officials of the MePDCL at the DC’s office chamber in Mawkyrwat on Wednesday, to discuss about the implementation of the Input Based Distribution Franchisee.
“We are happy that after a long discussion, the DC along with the officials of the MePDCL has taken a decision that from October onwards all the electricity bills will be issued fresh in the name of MePDCL and not FEDCO,” Chairman of MECF, Wallam Syiemiong said.
President of the KSU South West Khasi Hills District, Forwardman Nongrem said that the stance of the MECF remains the same, that is, not to allow FEDCO to operate in Mawkyrwat area.
In the memorandum to the DC, the MECF said that the report of the Fact Finding Committee clearly shows that there was a sudden rise in the electricity bills.
