NONGSTOIN: The Khasi Students’Union (KSU) Mawshynrut circle has expressed concern over the shutdown of Tynhiang Health Sub-Centre by the land owners on September 11, which has affected the people in the area.
Armstrong Sohshang, president of the KSU, Mawshynrut Circle informed The Shillong Times that the shutdown has left the locals in a problematic situation as they depend mostly on the sub-centre.
Sohshang also said that the land owners on 1992 had signed the agreement with the Health Department according to which the land was given free-of-cost for the construction of Health Sub-Centre at Tynhiang and in return the department agreed to appoint the land owner as the chowkidar.
But after the demise of Kesarlan L. Marshillong, the then land owner and the chowkidar of the sub-centre, the post was handover to his nephew, Alljusroy L Marshillong. The Health Department had appointed Alljusroy on a temporary basis with effect from August 25 to October 22.
However, the department handed a termination letter to Alljusroy before the month of October.
The land owners were surprised to find out that another individual had been appointed as the chowkidar of the sub-centre, therefore, they decided to shutdown the sub-centre alleging that the department disrespected the agreement between the two parties.
The KSU has urged the Health Department to intervene into the matter immediately and to clear the misunderstanding between them.
