SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC), which met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma here on Wednesday, said the amendment of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act is being steadily processed and the government will call a cabinet meeting to bring about the amendment of the act.
In a statement issued here, the CoMSO, of which the HYC is a part, said that they met Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday to follow up on the incorporation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) provisions in the amendment of Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act.
The chief minister assured that he will call a meeting of the cabinet ministers in the coming days and the state government is intends to bring the amendment before the Parliament session begins.
They recalled that the chief minister, during their meeting in September, had assured to expedite the amendment of the Act. The CoMSO met the chief minister to remind him of the assurance he made to them.
The statement from the CoMSO said the state is in need of legislation to protect against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) since the Union government is bent on implementing the CAB.
On the other hand, the CoMSO said that they will sit and discuss on the steps to be taken if the government does not act on its assurance.
