SHILLONG: The Health and Family Welfare department will issue the pre-termination notice to GVK EMRI 108 ambulance service on Thursday with a warning that they must resume their services within two months.
Speaking to The Shillong Times here on Wednesday, Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek said that the notice was supposed to be issued on Wednesday but it could not be done.
“ We will issue the notice on Thursday,” Hek said while adding that in the notice, GVK EMRI has been given 60 days to resume their service failing which the agreement would be terminated. Hek had earlier sought a detailed report about the ongoing indefinite strike by 200 ambulance drivers and other respondents of GVK EMRI.
The strike, organised under the banner of Meghalaya EMRI Workers’ Union (MEMRIWU), started on September 30 with protesters demanding that the government immediately terminate the contract with GVK EMRI and take over the emergency services.
The agitating employees want the state government to take over the services, but the latter had earlier stated it had no such plans as of now.
