Cartoons liven up Kerala Piravi

SHILLONG: The All India Malayalee Association (AIMA) celebrated Kerala Piravi to mark the 63rd formation day of Kerala state in the city on Friday.
The organisers celebrated the day with an exhibition of vintage photos and cartoons by cartoonist Sudheernath.
Black-and-white photos of Unjal, photo shoot at Ernakulam Bishop House, a sketch of Kumbalangu Palli, St. Peter’s Church, Kerala High Court, Edapalli market, High road, Thrissur, Marine Drive, Ernakulam, All India Radio Studio, Old SM Street, Kozhikode, Old Manchira, Kozhikode were among others on display.
Some of the political black-and-white pictures were of AKG and his wife, Susheela, with Prakash Karat and Brinda Karat and another picture was of K Karukalam, Umman Chandi, Indira Gandhi, KM Mani of March 25, 1977.
Sepia toned pictures of Rammohan Palace, Cochin, Jewish Synagogue in Kochi-Kerala, 1928, old pictures of Maharaja College, Cochin Secretariat 1941, Kerala State Transport Bus Stand, Ernakulam, 1966 were also on the gallery.
On the other hand, the cartoon section had sketches of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh.
Some of the cartoon read, “I am not a public representative sir..”, “The government’s liquor policy is our drugs policy, Drugs use will rise alarmingly : Minister,” “Lucky that all have to stand before national anthem”, “Split after growth and growth after split. Split in grand alliance as Nitish and Lalu part ways”, “Mann ki baat, apka vikas”, “Government has decided to hike price of gas cylinders by Rs 4 every month”.
