SHILLONG: The National Cricket Academy (NCA) of the BCCI conducted the ‘Open Trials for Bowlers’ at the SCA Cricket Ground, Shillong on Sunday and Monday.

Altogether 300 cricketers registered for the trials and 185 turn out during the two days of trial. Only five players were shortlisted for the ‘review’ on the second day but failed to impress the two bowling coaches from NCA – Yoginder and Munish Bali. These 5 players were advised coaching from MCA before they take the test again next year. The five players are Ankush Deb, Akash Lyngdoh, Gopi Chettri, Arnold Nongrum (all from SCA) and Tengrak Ch. Marak from Tura District Association.

The trials was part of the first phase of the All India Search for Fast and Spin bowlers in the age group of 17 to 22 years and who have not represented the State in any category.

The coaches were looking at the flight and turn of the spinners and the pace of 130 kmph for fast bowlers. The coaches were impressed by the large turnout in spite of the inclement weather and the physical agility and power of the boys here in the State. They were all praise for the professional approach of the Association towards a very smooth conduct of the trials.
