SHILLONG: Unknown miscreants set afire the staff room of Nongrah Presbyterian School, Nongrah, East Khasi Hills in the early morning hours on Wednesday. The miscreants also left a note in the school’s notice board.
It was learnt that when some of the teachers arrived at 8:20 am, they found smoke coming out from the staff room and initially, it was thought to be short circuit.
Headmistress of the school, BT Jyrwa said the teachers later found out that short circuit was not the reason and the tables were also burnt.
She said, “There was a notice in the board that threatened the teachers and the management. From the handwriting, it was understood that it is written by average students. They wrote about issues on money. We urge the people to come forward and speak to us and we are ready to listen rather than resorting to such activities which are unacceptable”.
She informed that the school fees are Rs 500 annually and it depends on the class and that the school is not strict but ensures that fees must be paid before getting the results.
In connection with the case, an FIR has been filed and the police have conducted the investigation.
Jyrwa informed that a parents’ meeting was also held recently in which the parents said there was no problem so far.
It may be recalled that in 2017 miscreants had robbed the school. It was later found that the robbery was committed by minors.
