Snaitang downplays rumours of fuss for ticket

MAWKYRWAT: President of the United Democratic Party (UDP) Ranikor Circle, GG Bung Snaitang, has downplayed the rumours that there was a misunderstanding within the party regarding the ticket for the upcoming MDC byelection in Ranikor which is likely to be held next year and said that the party in Ranikor Constituency is united and is confident of winning the byelection.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Snaitang said, “There was no fight for party ticket among the leaders of the party. We are all united and I can assure you that the candidate who gets the party ticket will be given 100 per cent support from the leaders”.
Snaitang claimed that the party had, as yet, not met for discussions with regard to the byelection and none of the leaders have expressed their willingness to contest.
“We are not in a hurry, we will decide as a party, when the time comes,” Snaitang added as he expressed confidence that the party will win the byelection.
“When we screen candidates who will be contesting for the party, we will choose a person with the calibre to win. We will give everything we have to win the byelection and will not allow other parties to regain their strength, especially that the 2023 Assembly Election is not far away,” Snaitang said. The byelection to the Ranikor seat was necessitated following the demise of former MDC of the constituency, Nassar Marwein on October.
