Council moves finance panel for Rs 1k crore

SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Executive Member (EM) in charge of finance, Pyniaid Syiem, has said the Council has submitted a proposal of Rs 1028 crore for five years to the 15th Finance Commission.
Replying to a supplementary by Independent MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri on Tuesday , Syiem said the Council met the members of the Finance Commission on June 4 this year when it visited the state. “The matter has been followed up from time to time. The Finance ministry intends to release funds for the Council through the scheme under excluded area Part IX of the Indian Constitution”, he said. When the leader of opposition, Lamphrang Blah, asked as to when the funds will be increased, Syiem said that the Finance Commission has asked to submit the proposal so that it can examine it and do the needful.
He said that the Finance Commission will release Rs 50 crore for 2019-2020.
