SHILLONG: At 91 years and 10 months, Gilman Rose Sancley remained a prolific writer and a voracious reader who was untouched by the whims and fancies of modernity before he passed away on Tuesday last.
Rev. Ever Sancley, pastor in-charge of King’s Church Central, Assam, in his eulogy, said that Late Gilman was inducted into the hall of fame after he joined the stalwarts of Khasi literature.
“He was inducted into the hall of fame a few years ago by uniting himself with the Khasi Authors Society. He wrote with both hands, leaving behind thousands of delivered sermons, articles, songs and more than 50 books in Khasi,” the pastor said.
Despite being an ordinary priest, his contributions to the society remained diverse, said Ever adding that he had served to more than just the people of his own community.
“As a teacher, he taught with great enthusiasm. As a pastor, he took care and fed the flocks. As a missionary he became an asset in every Christian home in his local church and kept obeying the Holy Commission,” Ever said.
The last book that Gilman wrote was Ka Balang Shi Jaka Bad Ka Mission Jong Ka 2019(The church and the mission)
Gilman will be laid to rest at the Mawroh Presbyterian Church on Friday while prayers will be conducted at his residence at Mawlai Mawroh.
