FIR against illegal killing of fish

Mawkyrwat: After banning the rampant killing of fishes and other aquatic life at Rilang River in South West Khasi Hills (SWKH) District by using explosives and poisonous chemicals, the Syiem of Hima Langrin, Nangtei Sing Syiemiong, had filed an FIR at Mawkyrwat Police Station against five persons who violated the order.
According to the FIR, five persons from Phlangdiloin area have violated the order of the Syiem and carried out illegal fishing activities in the river on November 20 and 26. The accused persons were identified as Orestarwell Sohlang, Romingstone Thongni and Tonelsing Thongni from Langpa village, Prophetstar Syrman from Phudumiap village, and Ebot Marak from New Phanwer village.
“Furthermore, a Bolero vehicle (ML-12-0993) illegally transports the fishes fetched from Rilang River and disposed the same in the market,” Syiemiong said.
It may be mentioned that the Hima Langrin, through the initiative of the Syiem and the Executive Dorbar, had on September 2 reintroduced the decision to ban rampant killing of fishes using explosives and poisonous chemicals at Rilang River right from Sdat Kynshi River to Sdat Ritham River to preserve fishes and other aquatic life.
The Executive Dorbar of the Syiem had also taken a decision to reward anyone or any group who catches and reports to the Syiem and the Executive Dorbar about the persons violating the order.
