Cleanliness drive under Swachhta Pakhwada

SHILLONG: As part of the Swachhta Pakhwada, the BSF Meghalaya Frontier on Saturday conducted a mass cleanliness drive which was led by Kuldeep Saini, Inspector General, Frontier HQ BSF along with 400 BSF personnel from frontier HQ Meghalaya and 30 Bn BSF. The team undertook an intensive cleanliness drive on the approach road to BSF campus Umpling, surrounding area to the main BSF gate and the area of Nongmynsong and Teen Pathar.
During the campaign, BSF carried out a cleaning and awareness drive at BSF campuses, public places as well as residential areas. The IG BSF said the drive has not only ensured general cleanliness in the area but also increased awareness among the masses.
Meanwhile, the CRPF is also observing Swachhta Pakhwada which started from December 1 and will end on December 15. On Saturday, CRPF observed the day by organising a plogging run as part of the Pakhwada. The North Eastern Sector, CRPF organised the run from NES HQr, Bishop Cotton Road to Golf Links, Shillong where 100 men participated in the cleaning exercise. Prakash D, IGP started the campaign. Teachers and students of Higher Secondary School, Pynthorumkhrah, Golf links, Buddha Vidya Niketan Secondary School and Gandhi Buniyadi Secondary School Shillong also participated.
EAC personnel along with their family members also participated in the Swachhta campaign at Headquarters Eastern Air Command (EAC), Indian Air Force, Upper Shillong on Saturday by organising plogging run under the theme ‘Plastic se Rakhsa – Swachhata hi Suraksha”. The drive was led by Air Marshal VR Chaudhari.
Air personnel undertook Swachhata Misison to create great awareness in society against plastic waste. Air warriors were also sensitised to discourage use of all types of plastic items for which an alternative exist.
The aim of the drive was to inculcate Swachhata Abhiyan as part of daily life.
Such Abhiyan is ingrained in armed forces society and the benefits are being accrued by the residents of the respective units/ camps as evident for decrease in number of vector borne diseases.
