WJH SP asks groups to take permission before holding rallies
JOWAI: The Superintendent of Police (SP), West Jaintia Hills, Lakador Syiem, has requested the church communities, groups, NGOs and locals, who are planning to organise rally during this festive season, to seek permission from the office of the Superintendent of Police in advance, in order for the police department to maintain law and order accordingly. The SP also informed that the office will not consider or entertain late receipt of application seeking permission.

Abducted driver yet to be found
TURA: Police are yet to locate the whereabouts of a driver working at a road construction site who was abducted by unidentified armed men from a village under Rongram region, near Tura, on Wednesday night. Around 3 to 4 persons brandishing what appeared to be country-made guns raided a campsite where workers engaged in road construction were staying on the outskirts of Dura Kalakgre village of Rongram around 10:30 pm on December 4. The men, suspected to be part of a dacoity gang, forced their way inside and assaulted some of the labourers before taking away the driver of a road roller identified as Mohan Raj Ghalley. The workers had been engaged in PMGSY road project in the area and were camping at the site when they were attacked. The gang is said to have demanded ransom from the victim’s family for his release.

Advent Christmas Programme
SHILLONG: The Shillong YMCA organised an Advent Christmas Programme at the Children’s Home run by the Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Synod Mihngi at Wahjajer last Saturday. The visit was made by the board members and their family. YMCA president Rev P Lyngdoh chaired the function and gave a brief narration on the essence of Christmas where Christ, who was born a child in a manger, will come back as king to redeem mankind. YMCA board member JR Myrboh, who was the chief speaker in the event, spoke on the story of wise king Solomon, who asked God only wisdom and knowledge, while He granted the king all his needs and beyond. Myrboh also called upon the children to seek God’s kingdom. The congregation also prayed for the well-being of the 19 orphan girls and the ‘mothers’ or the caretakers, who have dedicated their lives for sheltering and caring for the children. The girls presented mellifluous songs while the YMCA presented gifts to the children’s home.

BSF holds cleanliness drives
SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier and its Sector and Unit under command, conducted a mass cleanliness drive on Monday with an objective to connect people to the national campaign of Swachh Bharat in Nongmynsong and Polo. Moreover, a cleaning and awareness drive was also conducted by Frontier HQ BSF Meghalaya, 123 Bn under sector Jowai and sector Shillong. The local populace expressed their gratitude towards BSF for the drive and their efforts to promote cleanliness.
