SHILLONG: The year 2019 has been memorable for CRPF, North Eastern Sector as a number of successful operations were conducted in AOR in which 93 insurgents/suspects/linkmen were apprehended.
Altogether, 1,379 kg of ganja, 26 arms, 769 ammunitions, 12 magazines, 3 grenades, 600 pieces of gelatine stick, 1200 detonators, 120 metres of safety fuse, huge quantity of explosives and other contraband materials were recovered by CRPF, a release issued here informed. Besides, the CRPF also expressed pride over laurels brought by its personnel in the North Eastern Sector. As many as 2638 CRPF personnel were awarded Antarik Suraksha Seva Padak, one of the personnel was awarded with Shaurya Chakra, three were awarded with Police Medal of Gallantry, one was awarded with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and 935 personnel were awarded DGs Commendation Disc.
Meanwhile, Prakash D, IGP, CRPF, North Eastern Sector, has conveyed his wishes to the people of the state on the New Year’s Eve.
On behalf of the CRPF, he thanked all the security agencies in the state and the people for their cooperation.
Further, in compliance with the call of ‘Swachh Bharat’ by the prime minister, a calendar of activities for 15 days was prepared by the CRPF from December 1 to 15. Students from Pynthormukhrah Higher Secondary School, Budha Vidya Niketan Secondary School and Gandhi Buniadi Secondary School participated in the cleaning exercise along with the officers and other CRPF personnel.
In 2019, CRPF lost 44 lives in a vehicle-born suicide bomber attack in Pulwama, J&K, out of which one Manesar Basumatary hailed from North East.
RR Bhatnagar, DG, CRPF, visited field formation in the state on May 5 and 6. He visited 67 Bn CRPF in Shillong and interacted with the troops.
