Shillong: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and the North East Congress Coordination Committee (NECCC) have hailed the Congress-led UPA Government’s decision to nominate Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee as the Presidential candidate.

In a statement issued on Saturday, MPCC president and NECCC chairman DD Lapang pointed out that Mukherjee’s selection was a perfect choice stating that with his being elected to the country’s highest office, the nation will be benefitted as he is the most experienced parliamentarian of the country and a personality known across the globe. Mukherjee commands the respect and admiration of many from all sections of the political spectrum, Lapang added.

The UPA on Friday had named Mukherjee, one of India’s most versatile politicians, as its Presidential candidate, tripping mercurial ally Mamata Banerjee and virtually ensuring his journey to Rashtrapati Bhavan next month.
