Boost to NPF, ex-MLA joins

IMPHAL: In what could change the political climate and the balance of power in the state, given the upcoming election season, veteran Naga politician and Political Affairs Committee member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur Pradesh, PS Henry Paotei, has resigned from his party with his supporters in tow to join the mint fresh Naga People’s Front (NPF) Manipur.

Mr Paotei, a former MLA of Karong assembly constituency (ST), stated this in a press communiqué that he and his supporters desired to work with NPF Manipur unit because of its commitment to the principle “fede non armis” (by faith not by arms).

The statement informed that he has tendered a resignation letter to the state and national leaders of BJP on June 23, 2011, but fell short of confirming if the same has been accepted by the party. The statement, however did not name any of his supporters.

Mr Peotei, also a co-convener of Naga parliamentarians’ forum Manipur, has given the reason for his resignation as his (and his supporters) desire to work with NPF Manipur which, as he says, is committed to the principle which is the need of the hour (NNN).

Deadline given to evict ‘encroachers’

DIMAPUR: The Zeliangrong Volunteers for Forest & Environmental Protection has given the State Government, seven days time to evict all “encroachers and land invaders” from Ntangki National Park” while encroachers and land invaders are warned to immediately vacate Ntangki National Park within the stipulated time.

The volunteers in a press statement appended by its Commander D. Newmai stated that the government must implement its demand from the date of issue.

Stating that “failing which the Zeliangrong Volunteers for Forest & Environmental Protection will carry out future course of action. (Agencies)
