EC beats election drum in Tripura

AGARTALA: The special summary revision of photo electoral rolls for sixty Assembly constituencies of Tripura would get underway from October 1 next with reference 01.01. 2012 as qualifying date, official sources said here on Sunday.

With the commencement of electoral rolls revision, the Election Commission wants to begin the process for the next Assembly election slated in 2013.

The draft electoral rolls will be published on October 1 while period for filing of claims and objections will be entertained from October 1 to November 1, 2011. According to an official communiqué from Election Department, reading of relevant part/section of photo electoral rolls in gram sabha/local bodies and RWA meeting and verification will be done from October 8 to 11, 2011. Special campaign dates with booth level agents ( BLAs) of political parities for receiving claims and objections will be on October 9, 16 and 23, 2011.

As per the schedule of revision, the disposal of claims and objections will be conducted on December 1, 2011 while updation of database, preparation and printing of supplements will be done on December 31, 2011 while the final publication of electoral rolls will be on January 5, 2012.

The Election Department is expected to request all the DMs, SDMs and BDOs to gear up for the special revision of electoral rolls for 60 Assembly constituencies.

Sources close to department said, the 2013 Assembly election will be held on the basis of final electoral rolls prepared with a qualifying date 1.1. 2012. The number of total voters in the state was 6.37, 240 as per draft electoral rolls published last year.
