MAWKYRWAT: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) South West Khasi Hills District has warned that stern action will be taken against any person caught in supply of drugs.
The FKJGP has urged the law enforcers to be serious in tackling drugs within the district else the FKJGP will take its take its own course.
The federation has expressed concern over the increase in abuse of drugs and ganja in the district and fear that this would lead to increase in crimes.
“We are very concerned with the increase of drugs, ganja and other substance abuse in the district. We have received inputs through the units and circle within the district that there were some unscrupulous people who were taking advantage by bringing ganja in different villages, especially in the border areas without paying heed to the impact it will have,” general secretary of the FKJGP South West Khasi Hills, Balse Kharbani said.
It has been seen that addiction of drugs and other substances will put the youths in danger because if they do not get money to purchase them, they will resort to theft and robbery, Kharbani said, adding that consumption of drugs and other substances will also encourage the youths to commit other crimes and it will lead to dropouts in schools, besides affecting their health and welfare.
Kharbani said in this regard, the federation has asked its units to be alert and vigilant.
