Mawkyrwat: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) Sanshnong area unit organised a public meeting at Pynden Lyngdoh village, South West Khasi Hills district on Thursday to demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya and to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
Speaking on the meeting, assistant education secretary of the KSU central body, Pynshai Rani said, ILP is the need of the hour to protect the tribal people of Meghalaya from influx. He also urged upon the people to remain united and set aside all differences so that they can fight anything which goes against the interest of the ‘Jaitbynriew’.
SWKH KSU president, Forwardman Nongrem said that the union and the North East Student’s Organisation (NESO) are still fighting against CAA. He also called upon the people to be ready to fight if the Government of India forcefully implement CAA. “We should not let the next generation spit upon our grave, but we should be responsible and ready to fight for the ‘Jaitbynriew’. If a Bangladeshi is being chased from here he still has a place to go back to Bangladesh, but if we were chased away from our land, where we will go?” he asked. SWKH KSU assistant organising secretary and assistant education secretary also spoke in the meeting.
