Pressure groups want govt to resume coal mining

SHILLONG: The All Jaintia Transporters’ Association and the Meghalaya People’s Labour Union met at Jowai on Thursday wherein discussion was held on the state government not implementing the ruling of the Supreme Court on resumption of coal mining in Meghalaya.
In this connection, the Meghalaya Joint Action Committee for solution of public grievances was formed.
Balen Thubru was elected as convenor, Erwin K Syiem Sutnga, Advocate as co-convenor, Dawniwon Chulet as secretary in-charge of East Jaintia Hills district and Kyrshan Dkhar Secretary in charge, West Jaintia Hills District.
The meeting has decided to call for a public meeting on February 11 at 7 Mer, West Jaintia Hills District at 11 am.
Truck and commercial vehicle owners, coal and limestone labourers, drivers and handyman, coal mine owners, social organisations are being urged to attend the meeting.
