Siju youth body urges Conrad to address region’s grievances

TURA: The Achik Youth Welfare Organisation (AYWO) from Siju in South Garo Hills has urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to look into various issues plaguing the region.
Members of the organisation on Wednesday met the chief minister during his visit to Siju and submitted a memorandum listing various demands concerning the area. The organisation sought the upgrade of Siju PHC to CHC.
With Siju being inhabited mostly by the Atong Sub Tribe, the organisation felt that their culture and tradition needs to be promoted and showcased to the outside world as well as their vocabulary and literature recognised for which the government should take initiatives. In this regard, the organisation sought the sanction of extra funds under Integrated Arts and Culture Development Programme for the annually held Chywgyn Festival to promote Atong culture and tradition in a bigger way. The AYWO also demanded that an SBI branch in Siju besides the speedy completion of the the Model School in Siju.
