SHILLONG: Work on the permanent campus of NIT Meghalaya at Sohra has progressed about 60 per cent.
Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Ramesh Pokhriyal visited the NIT Meghalaya campus at Bijni Complex Laitumkhrah on Friday where he was briefed about the status of the permanent campus.
The union minister was accompanied by the state Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui, during the visit.
Pokhriyal unveiled the 3rd edition of the institute’s quarterly news bulletin ‘NITM Chronicle’.
An official told The Shillong Times that while work was progressing on the permanent NIT campus, it was difficult to set a tentative date of completion due to the weather conditions.
The NIT, Meghalaya, which is currently functioning from its temporary campus at Laitumkhrah, will eventually be shifted to Saitsohpen in Sohra.
Shifting to the new campus will ease the problem of space, which is faced in the present campus.
The Director of the Institute, BB Biswal, presented the academic and research progress and achievement of the faculty members and students.
Pokhriyal assured the institute of all kinds of cooperation from his office.
