NONGSTOIN: Youth wing of the National Peoples’ Party (NPP) of Mawshynrut Block, on Wednesday, strongly condemned the banned HNLC for their statement against the MLA of Mawshynrut, Gigur Myrthong alleging he was involved in illegal activities concerning the coke plant operating in Shallang area.
The youth wing asserted that it knew of Gigur Myrthong as a local businessman from Shallang before being elected as a legislator, who has a clean record ever since starting his business.
Borlin Hoojon, president of NPP youth wing said that after the allegation by HNLC, they discussed the matter and resolved to disagree with the charges put on him by the band outfit, adding that if the party knew anything about the MLA’s involvement in ‘benami’ transactions, it would primarily punish him.
Hoojon said that anybody can install or construct a coke plant after receiving a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the clan or the local headman.
The Mawshynrut MLA has no authority to shut down or allow the establishments to operate, Hoojon added.
The NPP youth wing president also said that all the coke plants in Shallang have valid documents and received the green signal from the state government and the MLA has no authority to give permission or recommend them for running the factories.
Regarding the installation of the factories in Shallang, the NPP’s youth wing president clarified that the MLA is not responsible for bringing them in the area.
However, those with enough information on procedures to establish the factories in the area can help people install them with the permission from the headmen or from the state government.
