No confirmed case in region so far, says AAI
GUWAHATI: Along with the rest of the country, airports in the Northeast are also on high alert and have taken all necessary precautions in the wake of the latest advisory by the Centre and restrictions related to the corona virus (COVID-2019).
A high-level meeting of the Union ministry of civil aviation was chaired by civil aviation secretary, Pradeep Singh Kharola and Airports Authority of India (AAI) chairman, Arvind Singh in New Delhi on Tuesday.
The meeting reviewed the preparedness towards implementation of the latest instructions issued by Union health ministry and Bureau of Immigration for strict compliance regarding universal screening for COVID-19 (Corona Virus-2019).
The meeting was attended by Airports Authority of India regional executive directors, airport directors and chief executive officers of joint venture airports.
“All the 12 functional airports in the Northeast have been fully equipped to take precautions against the corona virus with trained medical staff with face masks and gloves posted in all the airports. Both international and domestic passengers are being screened upon arrival at the airports,” Sanjeev Jindal, regional executive director, Northeastern region, said.
Jindal said that all passengers who have doubts can report at the help desks set up at the airport medical centre and make a declaration. “In this manner, we are making sure that doubtful cases do not go unattended. Besides, sterilised ambulances are available in all the district hospitals with separate wards for further testing of the person,” he said.
The regional executive director (NER) further said that so far no confirmed case of corona virus has been reported in the Northeast.
“We have received advisories against passengers of 12 countries and are ensuring 100 per cent screening upon landing at the international airports. Standees have been put up at the airports as well to make people aware of the symptoms of the disease,” Jindal said.
