TURA: Amidst fears of the novel coronavirus making inroads into the state, the Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE) has called on the state government to bring about a complete lockdown, given that the state lacks required medical infrastructure to fight against the disease.
The decision to demand for the lockdown comes after the association met a number of medical officers and specialists on the matter. “A complete lockdown of the entire state for at least a month is the only way out. As we all know, no specific vaccine or treatment is available to fight this deadly virus. The state of our medical infrastructure is no secret. The whole system can never cope up with such pandemic if it somehow successfully infiltrates into the state. Our only hope lies on the fact that it should be contained outside our borders,” ADE president, Dalseng Bira Ch Momin, said.
Momin pointed out that other states and also countries have taken a similar step to combat the deadly virus, which has wreaked havoc globally.
“They have learnt the lesson the hard way after losing people’s lives. We should follow their example before things go out of hand,” he said, urging that alongside these measures, proper stock, availability and distribution of medicine and other basic necessary commodities is ensured during the lockdown.
Momin also stated countries like Italy, France, etc., took a lackadaisical approach in dealing with the virus, which is why they paid the price and lost lives despite having the best medical facilities.
He said India, despite being a country of over 1.3 billion people, was able to minimise the death toll to only nine and that it would be able to overcome the crisis if the country deals with it cautiously.
