JOWAI: During the curfew relaxation period in West Jaintia Hills on Saturday, people from across the district thronged the Iawmusiang market violating the social distancing guideline.
“The Iawmusiang market has become so crowded where people are thinking about only what they will have for their dinner. They will never care about what will happen to them if there is an outbreak of coronavirus,” said a concerned citizen, who added that the state is still lucky as the record of positive case stands zero till date.
The police, on the other hand, provided water and soaps in different locations so that the shoppers wash their hands.
Despite the District Administration trying its best to make people aware of the social distancing norms, the people have paid no heed.
Meanwhile, the EJH police have drawn circles in each and every shop dealing with essentials commodities, so that shoppers can wait in the queue maintaining distance.
Curfew hours
Meanwhile, in East and West Jaintia Hills, curfew has been promulgated from Saturday 5 pm till 6 am of March 31.
