SHILLONG: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU), in a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, has urged the state government to issue pending salaries of Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) employees while alleging that no transparent auditing was done by the council Chief Executive Member (CEM). In the letter, the JSU urged the government to look into the problems faced by JHADC staff that has been lying unattended for many months.
Over 1,700 employees, which include the MDCs, have faced utmost challenges in receiving their income for about 6 months starting from October, 2019 till March.
The union urged the District Council Affairs department to solve the issue with immediate effect so that the income of these members are released as they have meet their basic needs every month ranging from house rents to tuition fees for their offspring and to purchasing groceries and food items.
“We hope that the government will issue the dues to these people in order to avoid drowning in debt because it is almost half a year that they have gone without any income whatsoever,” the union said.
The JSU expressed concern over the collection of Forest Tax, Revenue and Service Tax and other taxes by the JHADC almost every day, as well as stamp payments and professional tax once a year, stating that proper auditing for the same was not done.The union observed that the CEM should given a proper account of the money.
“The revenue had went without any proper auditing and the CEM should have given a transparent audit as to where the collected money had been spent”.
