MLA leads awareness drive in border hamlets

GUWAHATI: Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem led a delegation to several villages bordering Assam and urged villagers to take all necessary precautions against the spread of COVID-19.
“A team comprising myself accompanied by MDC, Nongpoh, officials from the state health, police departments and DIPR on Thursday met the headman of villages as well as part of the measures to make villagers aware of the precautions to be taken to prevent spread of the virus,” Syiem told The Shillong Times on Saturday.
The villages visited by the team comprised Shakoikuna, Umjong, Khongwing, Ampriling, Markang, Dondral, Khulia, Marmain, Pisamhuru, Rongsahep, Khuswai, Rongthelu, Rongbeta, Injal, Umrang, Kroh, Mawphru, Umshaken, Umjari, Umtrai and Umsiang.
“The entry (of people) from Umsiang, Markang and Injal villages was also sealed as part of the precautionary steps,” he said.
Aid to civil hospital
The MLA also visited Nongpoh Civil Hospital on Saturday and handed over a cheque for Rs 50,000 to the superintendent of the civil hospital, Dr G Mihsil for procuring masks, gloves and installation of hand wash basins on the premises of the hospital.
