SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Shella unit on Thursday apprehended illegal migrants at Disong, Shella, who hailed mostly from Assam and do not possess any IDs.
In a statement issued here, the KSU Shella unit said that the members of the unit, led by its president, Pynkmenlang Sanmiet, found a Bolero Camper bearing the registration number ML 10 B 3595.
The youth from Shella said that the vehicle would drop the migrants and leave them. In this connection, KSU stopped the vehicle and questioned the driver.
It is found that the migrant labourers worked under a person, Batyngshain Rynga, and the vehicle is also owned by him.
On further questioning, it was discerned that they have been taking refuge in forested areas since March.
The KSU unit expressed concern as to why the police personnel on duty allowed the people to leave and also questioned Rynga for flouting the health advisory issued by the government. The KSU unit has asserted that the reckless attitude of Rynga pose a danger to the residents who adhere to the health advisory of the government.
The union also urged the government to punish those who violate the advisory and to prohibit the entry of outsiders into Shella.
