SHILLONG: Despite the state government denying allegations of food scarcity in hospitals, more complaints have come to the fore.
A young woman, who was attending her father at Civil Hospital, said in the last few days she saw the in-patients and their relatives struggling to get food. She said she did not see any NGO distributing food.
The hospital gave food at times but there was a long queue, she said, adding that she was allowed to bring food for the patient.
All the in-patients were shifted in the orthopedic building of the hospital as the main section has been transformed into COVID treatment unit.
Meanwhile, the Civil Hospital authorities had on Thursday reached out to some people with an appeal for food of the attendants of the patients.
However, when Good Samaritans reached the hospital with food, some of the hospital officials told them that they have their own food.
The confusion was due to lack of proper communication.
The Good Samaritans, finding no other option, distributed the food meant for the hospital among the poor citizens of the city.
