SHILLONG: The Jhalupara Village Council and its residents on Monday expressed regret over the recent burial episode if the incident had hurt the sentiments of any individual, community and especially the bereaved family of Dr John Sailo.
The Council maintained that the residents of the locality never opposed the cremation of any individual, including that of Sailo, at the electric crematorium situated in the locality.
In a statement, the headman said that concerns were raised only with regard to the preparedness of the crematorium  to deal with the cremation of the victim of COVID-19 as it lacked basic infrastructure and feared spread of the virus.
It may be mentioned that the state government has decided to sanitise the electric crematorium in Jhalupara and its adjoining areas before and after every cremation.
