Virtual tour of state awes people

New Delhi: Hundreds of viewers had the opportunity to go through the virtual tour of selected but lesser known places of Meghalaya and Assam through a webinar, which was attended by participants from within the country and abroad.
The webinar, “North East India-Experience the Exclusive villages” with focus on the two northeastern states, was the 8th in a series of webinars under the ministry’s ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ theme.
Beside the large number of viewers from India, the webinar also attracted a host of interested people from countries like Afghanistan, Canada, France, Germany, Pakistan, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom and United States of America.
The infinite variety of its geographic setting, its topography, its varied flora and fauna and avian life, the history of its people and the variety of its ethnic communities and their rich heritage of ancient traditions and lifestyles, its festivals and crafts make the North East a holiday wonderland that just requires to be discovered afresh, an official spokesperson of the ministry said.
The North East’s amazing diversity makes it a holiday destination for all seasons, the official added.
In the video, Meghalaya was described as ‘The Abode of Clouds’ with its cool pine fresh mountain set on dramatic horseshoe formation of rocky cliffs, deep gorges and valleys.
Among the villages showcased were Mawphlang, Jowai, Durga temple at Nartiang and Krang Suri Falls. Other places on the screen were Kongthong, the whilstleing village, Jakrem health resort with its sulpheric spring, Nongriat village famed for the living-root bridge and Umngot river which is famed for its crystal clear water.
