BSF arranges for mobile ATM at border village during lockdown

GUWAHATI: The shortage of cash has become a common issue amid the COVID-19 induced nationwide lockdown. The problem is more discerning in the far flung bordering areas of the country.

Guwahati Frontier, BSF are there, standing with every person living in villages located close to Indo-Bangladesh International boundary for their requirement.

On request of Guwahati Frontier BSF, concerned district administrations have stepped in to facilitate mobile ATM service in bordering areas to reduce long queues at banks and ATMs.

Guwahati Frontier BSF approached the district administration of Coochbehar (WB) to provide Mobile ATM service to those villagers who are residing ahead of Indo-Bangladesh Border fence and facing a cash crunch for the past few weeks and had sought the administration’s intervention.

Accordingly, a team consisting of five members –, two from Customer Service Point (CSP) Okhrabari bank and three from State government assigned NGOs from Dinhata — arranged a Mobile ATM service with the support of BSF at border village Jaridharla-2, located ahead of Indo-Bangladesh Border Fence to resolve the cash crunch of border population. Around 20 persons of border village availed the service of mobile ATM maintain social distance and adhering to the norms laid by WHO, as well as the Government of India to counter the COVID-19
