SHILLONG: The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting on Tuesday skipped the controversial issue of snapping ties with the UDP after the latter refused to reconsider its decision to support Purno A Sangma in the Presidential polls.

Congress sources had earlier indicated that there were possibilities that the majority of the Congress MLAs would demand the snapping ties with the UDP during the CLP meeting.

The Congress MLAs are reportedly unhappy with the obdurate stance taken by the UDP in rejecting the request of the Chief Minister to reconsider their decision of supporting Sangma.

However, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma soon after the CLP meeting said, “We did not discuss anything on this issue.”

In the meeting which lasted for an hour, MLAs were imparted training on how to cast vote in the presidential polls.

“We have discussed how to vote and how to mark for our candidate as in the last Rajya Sabha elections some MLAs cast their votes wrongly which were later declared invalid,” Dr Sangma said.

Referring to July 19 presidential polls, Dr Sangma in a jocular vein said that some NCP votes might go in favour of UPA candidature Pranab Mukherjee.
