SHILLONG: The Shillong Manipuri Student Union on Friday requested Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh to help transport students of different communities from Manipur who are stranded in Shillong due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The union informed that there are more than 300 stranded students from Manipur in Shillong at present.
Though maximum assistance is extended from both local communities and Meghalaya government, they remain inadequate as there are several issues and problems that the students are facing, they pointed out.
Majority of the students are in private rented houses who are now left on their own. ‘The situation is bad now and it may become worse unless necessary steps are taken. The best possible solution is to transport them to their respective home” the union said.
